Welcome to the Community Hub Beta

Today, we are more than excited to announce the release of our first product— The MADANA Community Hub — and give you a sneak peek at the current development status.

Overview

As a community-driven platform for data analysis, we are reliant on closely working together with our community to shape our products and to reach our most important goal: taking back control over one of our greatest assets — the digital you. This means that we want to create an engaging community upfront (which shouldn’t be mistaken with the nowadays common practice of buying 10K Telegram group members). All while giving you the possibility to engage with us and other privacy-concerned individuals. The Community Hub will be the future home of our community, where you will receive the newest information about our product development and can actively engage in the further development of the platform. This is the reason why we put a strong focus on developing the Community Hub at such an early stage, before even the development of the core product.

Community Hub 0.1

This release focuses on features to reach out to more like-minded people while also giving something back to our already awesome community. In relation to the start of our bounty campaign (more information here: Bounty Blog Post), we combined the user-related functionality of a platform with different features to create a fully automatic system which rewards you for spreading the word.

With the release of the Community Hub you can now create a MADANA account which will evolve with the upcoming releases and give you the privilege to participate in our ecosystem.

Every user can now earn Community Points (CP) when interacting with the MADANA Community Hub features. These points indicate your engagement in the Community Hub and for MADANA. They are used by us to create a community ranking. Based on the ranking we will distribute PAX when the bounty campaign ends.

The main features that I would like to introduce to you in this release are the following:

Twitter Bounty

Twitter is one of our preferred social media channels. Not only because the number of data privacy infringements in relation to other social platforms is quite low (which is related to the fact that everything you post is public), but also because it’s an awesome way to quickly get updates of interesting topics without getting sidetracked by your neighbor’s cat photos. In relation to this fact we’ll reward you with CP for following our site, liking our posts, commenting and, of course, for retweeting our posts.

Community Hub Referral

As a common feature in other platforms, we also want to introduce you to our “invite a friend” feature. In fact, you can also invite people you’re not friends with. Just share your personal referral link wherever and however you want, and as soon as someone signs up you will get rewarded with CP.

Token Sale Referral

Furthermore, I would like to introduce you to the feature which rewards your commercial skills. By referring people to our Token Sale, you don’t just receive CP, we will also provide you a commission for every investment you bring. Additionally, the personalized referral link you get can also be used later on. Once we recognize an investment from your referral, you will get the commission of the purchased PAX token after the Main Sale has concluded. Read more about in the blog post “€ 500,000 Community Bounty Campaign” by our Community Manager Eugen Salkutzan.

Aside from the main functionality, I would like your attention to be drawn to something that shouldn’t be missed out on any community driven platform — gamification. When planning the initial release, Eugen and I had a look at different platforms and as passionate gamers we quickly agreed on the fact that achievements are a great way to keep users engaged. Therefore, we are starting up with a set of around 50 achievements which, when unlocked, will grant an additional bonus of community points.

Details

The MADANA Community Hub is a web application which was built with Java and uses Servlets to dispatch requests to different sessions and to handle client requests. These sessions communicate in the background via REST and SOAP clients with the (currently still private) MADANA API to request and/or manipulate data. While we try to keep the amount of data that we store on our side as small as possible, all required data for user management is currently stored in an encrypted relational database.

Fun Fact

To Achieve this goal we’ve completed 928h of work in 12 sprints which resulted in 339 commits solving 404 issues.

Where we are Heading

Although the current features aim to support the bounty campaign, the implementations made to reach this goal are the foundation for the further development of the platform. This year’s development mostly focused on awareness and community-building. Therefore, we will implement and adapt other social platforms which will also be integrated in the bounty program. However, and more importantly, in the future it could be utilized by you as the initial data sources in our B2C ecosystem.

Besides that, we are currently finishing and polishing up the API in terms of client authentication and multi-application support, as well as cleaning up the current codebase. What does this mean? Does this mean the team will move their source code from Bitbucket to GitHub and release more applications in the near future?

You might find out in the next (and from now on, regularly upcoming) DevNotes.
