Intro
In our last blog post of this year, we want to reflect on the major milestones for MADANA this year and celebrate our success with our community and all new supporters we welcomed this year. Finally, we want to give you a glimpse of the great things that await us in 2021.
Looking back at 2020
This year was exceptionally important for MADANA as we have made great progress in our product development and business. We made many new partnerships and we are proud of setting the foundations for the emerging confidential computing industry.
MADANA Core — Confidential Computing as a Service. For us, the development and strategic positioning of our MADANA Core confidential computing product was a top priority this year. MADANA Core offers a cybersecurity solution that secures data and applications. Focusing primarily on application security, MADANA Core is easily integrable into organizations’ current workflows, no matter whether applications are run on-premise or in the cloud. It enables the creation of an isolated environment where, even if the operating system is compromised, the application is protected. Rather than relying on software alone to manage access to resources on these devices, our solution provides security through hardware-based Trusted Execution Environments (TEE’s).
Not only have we made great advancements in product development but we have also partnered with respected industry leaders and consortia in order to position ourselves as Europe's leading confidential computing service provider in 2021.
Patent. In March of this year, the German Patent and Trademark Office (DPMA) officially sent us our patent grant certificate. With only 18 months after filing, it is one of the fastest patent grants a start-up has ever achieved in Germany. We now reserved this patent in 150+ countries and you can view it on Google patent below:
Bitkom. As Germany’s main digital association, Bitkom advocates the digitisation of the economy, our society and public administration. On September 3rd, MADANA presented the importance of confidential computing to the members of Bitkom alongside Intel, Red Hat and Fortanix. Many companies, especially in the cloud sector, praised MADANAs advancements in this area and the important work we do for the security of the industry.
OVHcloud Partnership. As Europes leading cloud service provider, OVHcloud covers, independently, a full spectrum of use cases for their 1.6 million customers in more than 130 countries. OVHcloud and MADANA share the same vision of building a sovereign data infrastructure and secure open digital ecosystem within Europe, following the GAIA-X initiative principles. With the joint offering, we aim to provide a foundation for a secure and reliable ecosystem based on cutting-edge technologies. Read our the announcement here:
Together we are going to bring our confidential computing services to millions of people worldwide and offer them unprecedented security for data and applications in use. Learn more about it in our video series with OVHcloud below:
Confidential Computing Consortium (CCC). The CCC is a project community at the Linux Foundation dedicated to defining and accelerating the adoption of confidential computing. It will embody open governance and open collaboration that has aided the success of similarly ambitious efforts. We are proud to have joined the CCC, joining the company of organizations like Google, Microsoft, Intel, AMD, Nvidia and Facebook amongst many others.
Linux Foundation. The Linux Foundation supports the creation of sustainable open source ecosystems by providing financial and intellectual resources, infrastructure, services, events, and training. MADANA is also proud to have become part of this inspirational foundation as a Silver Member (See Members) this year, together with many industry leaders in Tech, Security and Development.
The ECSO 8th Investor Days. The European Cybersecurity Organisation ECSO is the private counterpart to the European Commission in implementing the contractual Public-Private Partnership (cPPP) on cybersecurity. They are a non-profit organisation, established in 2016.
We are honoured to have been recognised as one of the best cybersecurity startups in Europe at the ECSO 8th Cyber Investor Days, that took place on 30 November — 1 December 2020 in Bochum, Germany.
Blockchain
2020 was an exciting year for the blockchain industry. With the rise of the DeFi ecosystem and numerous advancements in technology, it seems that Blockchain’s niche is becoming a relevant part for more and more people. Therefore, we are proud to be contributing to this progress and add additional security for many blockchain applications.
Forbes. Early this year we were interviewed by Forbes China on the topic of data privacy and how DLT systems can be put to use to protect user data sovereignty.
Our Head of Blockchain Eugen Salkutzan explained the various facades of big corporations behaviour in exploits user data and harming data privacy. You can read the translated version of it here:

ITSA. The International Token Standardization Association (ITSA) e.V. promotes the development and implementation of a standardized approach for the identification, classification and analysis of blockchain- and DLT-based cryptographic tokens. In January of this year MADANA joined ITSA and added its expertise, especially given our successful launch of one of the first cryptocurrencies under German law in 2019. [Official Announcement]
Neo and Waves Partnerships. The blockchain industry thrives on decentralized collaborations, openness and from shared technological advancements. We are particularly proud to have found partners in Neo and Waves who not only value our technology but also are willing to put it to use in their respective ecosystems. In 2021 we are looking forward to the great things we will create for the blockchain space together.
Outlook for the Year 2021
So we had a fantastic year, despite all the challenges of 2020. We continued to grow and positioned ourselves for an explosive year in 2021. After we have celebrated the arrival of the new year, the MADANA team is going back to work on delivering the next chapter in our success story. Here are some things to look forward to next year:
Launch of our Confidential Computing Platform
We will be launching our much-anticipated Confidential Computing Platform in Q1 2021 — so keep an eye on our blog and watch out for announcements so you can be one of the first to set up your free test account. We will initially be launching a limited number of use cases to trial the Platform — starting with Redis Labs Databases.
As the use cases grow, you will be able to secure more and more applications, software and data using our platform. It will be the first of its kind in Europe — and for a short period of time it will be available to try out for free — so don’t miss your chance!
OVHcloud Marketplace. Not only will we be launching our own Confidential Computing Platform in 2021 — we will also provide the MADANA Core solution in different product variants on the OVHcloud Marketplace. This will include a multi-tenancy web-based Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) offering on an easily available and elastic infrastructure with a subscription-based billing as well as a Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) offering that provides a framework for developers to create fully customized secure and trusted applications with limited management responsibilities in the cloud. The joint offering will be the first of its kind in Europe, directly combining cloud computing services with confidential computing to provide the safest readily available cloud computing solution on the European market.
Industry Sale. After the launch of our Confidential Computing Platform and listing our products on the OVHcloud Marketplace in 2021 we are going to roll out the 2nd phase of our Industry Sale: The Plug-In Provider incentive. This will kick-start the MADANA ecosystem growth and bring more developers on board to create marvellous things with our technology. Stay tuned!
Community Bounty Campaign. Our community is simply amazing! With more than 23,000 registered MADANA users, who will enjoy our confidential computing service next year, 3500 twitter followers and unbelievable 2560 LinkedIn followers MADANA has grown to a respectable size and enjoys a great reach in major social media applications.
We want to thank you all for your continuous effort and the great support we receive from you year after year. Many of you climbed the rank system in the Community Hub and have the possibility to claim an exceptional reward. We are happy to tell you that we will start shipping these rewards in 2021, so make sure to follow us on our channels to not miss out!
European Cybersecurity STARtup Award. Thanks to our success at the ECSO 8th Investor Days this year — MADANA has been invited to take part in the European Cybersecurity STARtup Award competition in Brussels in 2021. The Award is built around a shared belief that European cybersecurity companies delivering ground-breaking cybersecurity solutions need recognition and investment support to be able to scale up and develop their business in Europe.
We are honoured to be considered as one of the select few cybersecurity startups providing a ground-breaking solution. Local winners will be asked to present their solutions to the European jury, consisting of international investors, CISOs, representatives of large cybersecurity companies, ECSO representatives and cybersecurity experts, which will make the final decision. The winner of the Award will be announced at the final ceremony — so wish us well as we head to Brussels in the new year!
